Frat Boy At the Movies: Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
on October 7, 2011 at 12:01 amTucker & Dale vs. Evil is a clever twist on slasher movies. The twist holds up for about 95% of the movie and is really funny. This movie is a must for anyone that used to watch slasher movies.
The basic plot is a slasher movie in reverse. Two hillbillies, Tucker and Dale (Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine) are headed to the woods to fix up Tucker’s cabin in the woods. Along the way, they encounter a group of college kids headed for a camping trip. The kids immediately jump to the conclusion that any hillbilly is a creepy hillbilly and Dale’s nervous attempt to talk to a college girl only confirm that fact. From there, it only gets worse as the college kids’ paranoia snowballs when they see Tucker and Dale save a college girl from the water after she hits her head. They assume, they knocked her out and kidnapped her. It just escalates from there and the bodies start piling up.
The last ten minutes or so are almost too much and strain the credibility of the end, but up until that, it’s a pretty damn funny movie. The hillbillies try everything to be friendly, but it’s constantly misinterpreted by the kids. It’s a bit gory, but slasher film fans will notice all the slasher movie conceits that carry most of the movie. Tudyk is solid in an understated role and Labine is pretty funny as the well meaning hillbilly.
I loved it. There are some big laughs here. I give Tucker and Dale vs. Evil 9 out of 10 keggers. Don’t miss this one.
