Frat Boy At the Movies: Tangerine
on January 2, 2016 at 12:01 amTangerine is executive produced by the Duplass brothers, Mark you may remember from The League. Directed and co-written by Sean Baker who shot the entire movie on an iPhone.
The story goes, when transgender prostitute Sin-Dee gets out of prison, she finds out from her good friend and fellow trade worker, Alexandra, that her pimp/boyfriend is cheating on her. Sin-Dee sets out to find her cheating guy, the biological woman he’s cheating with and confront both of them.
At the same time, one of the trade’s regular’s, a cab driver named Razmik, is a huge fan of the girls. His life becomes intertwined with Sin-Dee’s during the course of the movie. It’s a gritty glimpse into a seedy street world that is fairly compelling and kind of funny of times. Ultimately, the movie just kind of ends without much of a pay off, but it’s pretty watchable. Not a bad rental.
I give Tangerine a 7 out of 10 keggers. It’s currently playing on Netflix.
