Pho Xinih is my go-to local Pho place. Started going there a few years ago because of the quality food and low prices. It stayed fairly consistent over the past four years.
Last year, they had a weird thing going on with the menus. They had served this appetizer called Sweet Onion Beef which me and the Missus love. About a year and a half ago, they dropped it, but it was still on the menu. Then, instead of new menus, they crossed it out. Right around that time, they raised their prices and although it was still good, I felt the quality had suffered.
Well, good news. Pho Xinih is back and so is the Sweet Onion Beef! New menus and what appeared to be a new staff. Even the portions seemed to be bigger this time around. Previously, they’d serve the Sweet Onion Beef over lettuce. Now it’s on a bed of lettuce, noodles and that briny carrot and root salad. It was practically an entrée itself. The Missus loves the Chicken Satay appetizer, so that was a must. Great peanut sauce.
For entrees, the Missus got a giant bowl of Pho with the meatballs. I opted for the house Vermicelli. It include bits of pork, beef, shrimp, two kinds of noodles, some spring rolls and the carrot/root briny stuff. It’s a nice bowl and very filling. Total for two people, plus Jasmine tea, just $36.70. That’s a pretty good deal these days and the Missus still has a bowl of Pho for tomorrow.
Pho Xinih is prefect if you’re new to Vietnamese food and you’d like to try it. The menu’s not so overwhelming or hard to read that you’ll feel the food is too exotic if you’ve never tried it. At the same time, Pho veterans will appreciate the solid basics, fresh ingredients and affordable price. As a bonus, there’s a Starbucks next door, so you can drop in for coffee afterwards.
I give Pho Xinih 8 out of 10 keggers.
