Joe Italiano’s Maplewood is always packed. Located in Hammonton very near to my dad’s side of the family, my dad took me here on a Monday night.
Still packed with people.
You gotta go here. You just gotta. You’re gonna spend some money, but it’s worth it. When a place is packed on a Monday night after being open for 70 years, they’re doing something right. I had been here once before about a year prior just to get spaghetti and meatballs. I got the giant ones and they were delicious. This time, I got my favorite, Chicken Parmesan. Even though the pasta is really good, I was dying for fries. They handmade me some. So good!
They also have great house salad, amazing bread and the clams casino was perfect. If you’re a fan of Italian food, this has to be a stop for you.
I give Joe Italiano’s Maplewood 9.5 out of 10 keggers.
The wife and I came here a couple of years ago at the repeated insistence of a coworker.
I’m sorry to say our experience wasn’t nearly as positive as yours. We went on a summer Saturday, before “dinner rush”, so around 4pm, and it was still hard to find parking. There were empty tables, yet we had to wait a good 15 minutes to get beverages, and not even the alcoholic kind.
She had gotten her go-to Italian dish – pasta and seafood with red sauce – but the seafood and pasta were both overcooked and the sauce was absolutely tasteless.
I had ordered a veal-and-greens thing. The veal was thinner than the handle of the fork I was using, and couldn’t be cut with a butter knife. Also, I could barely find the two palm-sized pieces for all of the arugula greens that were piled on top.
We might try it again – after all, your reviews run parallel to some of the places we like – but that first failure really turned us off.
Really? I’m shocked. Joe’s has always been good to me. Then again, any place that gets super busy can drop the ball. I suggest the spaghetti and meatballs. That’s their specialty.
