Frat Boy At the Movies: Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse
on October 31, 2015 at 12:01 amSome movies tend to over promise and take themselves way too seriously, but Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse is definitely not one of them. I’m a big fan of the zombie genre, so it’s hard to find new avenues to entertain audiences. Scout’s Guide does it admirably. Look, this isn’t rocket science or Shakespeare, but if you want to be entertained and laugh, you could do a whole lot worse.
The basic premise is simple. The local scout group has not enough members and the last three are barely hanging on. One of the scouts wants to ditch the entire troop to pursue women full time and the screenwriters come up with a very plausible and likable reason for why they are still in. Patient Zero is set loose by Uncle Blazer from Workaholics and the scouts are the last line of defense.
Sarah Dumont plays Denise, a badass strip club waitress who becomes a mentor of sorts to one of the boys. David Koechner plays a hapless troop leader and Patrick Schwarzenegger (son of Arnold) plays the class douchebag. The action flows pretty seamlessly from one sequence to the next and Christopher Landon does a nice, tight job of directing. Very few lulls here. I don’t understand all the hate that’s coming from some of the major critics. This movie was fun.
Grab some brews and some Halloween candy and go see it. I give it 7 and a half keggers out of 10.
