I had been to the Tokyo Mandarin at least once before when it was twice as large. It always served a solid sushi plate and tonight was no exception.
The $20.95 sushi deluxe contained a tuna roll an 12 assorted pieces. But these were really good pieces, way more fish than rice, even the tuna roll. Everything taste very fresh. Prior to that, the Missus and I got the Bento Box Starter, which was an assortment of samples (tempura shrimp, dumplings, chicken satay and crab Rangoon). We also got scallion pancakes which were more pancake-y than scallion. The ginger salad was a stand out. I could’ve eaten another one of them. The Missus got the beef and broccoli. Tasty.
Our server was excellent. Never missed a beat. Came to our table regularly and kept our drinks flowing. All in all, an excellent experience. This place will stay on my list of food haunts. There’s also plenty else on the menu I haven’t tried, including some new rolls and Thai food. Some places do Asian foods from various cultures and it ends up muddling it, but not Tokyo Mandarin. As a bonus, it’s right next to a Dunkin Donuts, which used to be the other half of the restaurant. So if you’re a fan of that coffee, you can walk by and get one on the way to the car.
I give Tokyo Mandarin 8 out of 10 keggers.
