Super Frat

Snow Piercer starts Chris Evans as a revolutionary leader aboard a very weird train.  It includes Tilda Swinton, Ed Harris and John Hurt in the cast.  Directed by Joon-ho Bong, the ambitious screenplay takes place in the not-too-distant future.  After attempting to cool the Earth from globally warming, the governments end up freezing the planet.  This kills everyone except those that made it aboard a super-advanced train known as the Snow Piercer.

But all is not well on the trainer.  People stuck in the back live a tough existence, subsisting on bars of black goo and attempting to plot a revolution to take over the train.  Adapted for the screen by the directed and based on a French novel, the story has lots of substance and get set pieces.  The cast, especially Tilda Swinton, is pretty stellar and it has a tone that is part Apocalypse Now, part George Orwell and part Animal Farm.

The ending didn’t totally sell it for me.  And while it is very bleak, there is some redemption and hope at the end.  I feel as if this may have been added for the consumption of American audiences.  But that being said, it’s still a really good movie and the ending didn’t upset me all that much.  It would be interesting to see a TV series set in this frozen world.  I watched this on TV on On-Demand, which was a lot cheaper and more convenient that hitting the theater.

(As a side note, the first theater I tried to see Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, tried to charge me an extra four dollars for sound kind of new sound system.  Fuck that.)

I give Snow Piercer 8 out of 10 keggers.  Worth seeing, bros.
