So I ended up in the Barrelhouse on a first date because the first place I picked was way too hipster. This one was hipster too, but at least it was quiet and wasn’t as crowded. I had skipped dinner to make it in Philly in time for this date, so I was hungry. They had a special that was called the Chicken Parm Sandwich. It came with fries, which were awesome. The sandwich was awesome too until I realized I was chewing on a rubber band. I ate a piece of it too.
Needless to say, this was a problem. The waiter was pretty good about it, although he did go into the back to kind of confirm what I found was possible. He offered me another dish, but I get really weirded out by stuff like that. Couldn’t eat another thing. Plus I was on a date, so I didn’t want to be too full anyway.
I will say, it was good, but weird. It was chicken parm, but had lettuce, onion and some kind of mayo? I actually had a beer, which is rare for me. That was okay, but it was an IPA. A little heavy, so I nursed it with a water. Unlike my previous two experiences where the food was decent, but the service ruined it. This was an accident, but the waiter handled it well and I didn’t have to pay for the sandwich.
I give the Bainbridge Street Barrelhouse 6 out of 10 keggers. Partly because of the rubber band, but party because the tables were sticky. I would, however, give them another chance.
